Senior Engagement Specialist

Opportunity:

ICE is looking for an experienced engagement and project management professional to join our team of passionate professionals that deliver high quality, impactful outcomes for our clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for project planning and delivery across a range of sectors.

Founded in 2015, Indigenous and Community Engagement (ICE) Inc. is a leading national Indigenous firm specializing in Indigenous community engagement and consultation, economic development, capacity building, community-based social research and community development. ICE’s clients range from Indigenous communities and organizations, corporate Canada and governments. Our key service offerings include engagement and consultation, Indigenous Participation Plans, Reconciliation Action Plans, regulatory and permitting support, project agreements (IBAs, MOUs, etc.), Indigenous knowledge and land use studies, research, and environmental and social impact studies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project scopes, timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure high-quality outcomes for clients
  • Design and facilitate meaningful and innovating engagement processes that reflect Indigenous knowledge systems, values, and protocols.
  • Support the co-development of project approaches with Indigenous partners to ensure culturally appropriate practices.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Indigenous Participation Plans and Reconciliation Action Plans.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients and internal teams on Indigenous relations, regulatory requirements, and engagement best practices.
  • Support the negotiation and implementation of project agreements (e.g., IBAs, MOUs, collaboration agreements).
  • Prepare or review consultation records, engagement summaries, and regulatory submissions.
  • Oversee Indigenous knowledge and land use studies, ensuring ethical data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Integrate Indigenous perspectives and knowledge into project planning, environmental assessments, and decision-making processes.
  • Managing the day-to-day aspects of projects with project teams in a range of sectors and of various sizes.
  • Building client relations
  • Collecting, inputting and analyzing data; and, writing and producing reports.
  • Other tasks associated administrative, business development and project management support associated with Indigenous & Community Engagement (ICE) initiatives.

Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Experienced in project management, including managing budgets, timelines, and cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience in a consulting environment (or similar) and experience working in a range of sectors.
  • Extensive experience in community engagement and consultation, including the development and execution of engagement plans across diverse settings and platforms.
  • Strong understanding of effective community relations and best practices and trends
  • Proven experience building partnerships and working collaboratively with Indigenous businesses, community members, governments, and organizations.
  • Knowledge and application of Indigenous Participation Plans and Reconciliation Action Plans.
  • In-depth understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems, worldviews, and the historical and present-day context of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including empathetic listening, strategic questioning, discretion, and public speaking.
  • Experience with business development, writing proposals and funding applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear, accurate, and culturally respectful communication.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and influencing skills with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative and cross-cultural environments.
  • Well-organized with a strong ability to prioritize assignments and manage workload proactively.
  • Reliable, solutions-oriented, and committed to task completion with strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • High level of integrity, personal accountability, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and adaptability in dynamic and sensitive contexts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willing and able to travel within Canada for projects and conferences, including to remote northern communities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Successful candidates in this position may come from a variety of academic backgrounds.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in an applicable field, including sociology, business, public administration, Indigenous Law, communications, etc. OR;
  • Technical diploma/certification with extensive years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Indigenous engagement, including experience in a consulting environment and experience working in a range of sectors.

Additional Information:

  • This position is full-time, remote.
  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position. Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
  • Regular full-time employees will have access to the company health, dental, and vision plan.
