Nick St. Germaine

Indigenous Engagement and Research

Nicholas St. Germaine is an Indigenous Researcher and Engagement Coordinator from the Chippewas of Rama First Nation with expertise in Indigenous mental health policy research, community-based engagement, and culturally grounded methodologies.

His work is guided by Indigenous knowledges, including the Seven Grandfather Teachings, Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), and the OCAPĀ® principles, ensuring that research approaches respect Indigenous data sovereignty and centre community priorities and knowledge systems.

Nicholas brings extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research, with a strong focus on community-led data collection and governance. He has supported and led projects where data is owned, controlled, and maintained by Indigenous communities, and has worked closely with community advisory committees to co-develop research methodologies, recruitment strategies, and engagement approaches that reflect local contexts and priorities. His skillset includes facilitating workshops, focus groups and Talking Circles, conducting interviews, and translating findings into meaningful insights to support evidence-based and community-informed decision-making.

He has led a research project examining Indigenous policy development practices across Canada, contributing to the creation of a policy framework that centres Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing. Nicholas is recognized for his collaborative, flexible, and relationship-driven approach to research, stakeholder engagement, and policy development.
