Key findings

Sector-wide contribution
Indigenous economic activity extends across Ontario’s entire economy, with direct Indigenous activity recorded in all 20 broad NAICS sectors.
Leading sectors
Public administration accounts for the largest share of GDP in the analysis, followed by manufacturing, health care and social assistance, construction, and real estate and rental and leasing, together accounting for approximately $15.18 billion, or 58.9% of the $25.77 billion GDP contribution.
Broader impact
Every $1 of direct Indigenous economic output is associated with approximately $1.78 in total Ontario economic output, with $27.2 billion in direct Indigenous economic output supporting $48.36 billion in total output when supply-chain activity and household spending are included.
Employment impact
Direct, indirect, and induced Indigenous economic activity is associated with 307,844 jobs across Ontario, representing approximately 3.92% of Ontario jobs under the report’s economic-accounting framework.
Mining workforce
Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction has the highest Indigenous workforce representation of any broad sector at 9.39%, more than three times the province-wide Indigenous direct-job benchmark of 2.73%.

“Indigenous economic activity is not a niche part of Ontario’s economy. It is woven throughout it, contributing across every sector and creating value well beyond Indigenous communities.”
