Indigenous-Led Social Research That Honors Your Story

We're partners in empowering Indigenous communities to drive informed decision-making and shape their own narratives while navigating complex social and economic landscapes.

Weaving Together Tradition and Progress

Our planning framework encompasses every aspect of community development, from land use and infrastructure to economic development and cultural preservation. We create detailed integrated capital plans that consider not just physical infrastructure, but also human, cultural, and natural capital.

These plans include specific implementation strategies, timeline frameworks, and resource allocation guidelines that respect both traditional decision-making processes and modern project management requirements.

Comprehensive Community Planning

Just as your ancestors needed to understand the land's patterns to thrive, your community needs a clear picture of its current state to make informed decisions about its future. Our baseline studies capture this richness through both numbers and narratives, creating a comprehensive picture of community life today.
2. Community Development
& Infrastructure Projects:
Creating lasting, community-centered infrastructure is key to enhancing quality of life for Indigenous communities. Our team guides projects from concept to completion, whether it’s housing developments, water systems, or transportation. We prioritize sustainable practices and local employment to build infrastructure that endures and supports community growth.

Sustainable
Growth

Projects designed with an eye for the future, utilizing sustainable materials and methods.

Local Employment & Training

Opportunities for local hiring and skills training that leave a lasting impact on community employment.

Collaboration with Leaders

We engage community leaders, gov agencies & contractors to deliver infrastructure that serves current & future generations.

Land Use
Planning.

Your relationship with the land is sacred and central to your community's identity.

Our land use planning goes beyond conventional zoning and development. We integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) with modern planning principles to create comprehensive land use strategies that honor sacred sites, protect traditional territories, and create space for sustainable development.

This includes detailed mapping of cultural and ecological assets, development of land use designation systems that reflect Indigenous values, and creation of management frameworks that protect resources for future generations.

Comprehensive Community Planning.

At the heart of sustainable community development lies thoughtful, integrated planning. Our comprehensive planning process begins with deep listening – understanding your community's history, values, and aspirations. We work collaboratively to develop plans that align with traditional governance structures while embracing modern opportunities.

Principles that guide our team
We ground our work in the United Nations Declarations on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the Truth and Reconciliation recommendations, the UNDRIP Action Plan, and other important recommendations coming from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls inquiry and more.

Our team members are also trained in the First Nations principles of ownership, control, access, and possession (OCAP) and in Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+). This training provides our team with the necessary tools to engage meaningfully and respectfully with diverse groups.
First Nations Principles of Ownership, Control, Access and Possession (OCAP)
ICE will ensure that OCAP principles will be adhered to as the collection, maintenance, and validation of the information shared during engagement is integral to the success of the assignment. OCAP principles support information governance and Indigenous peoples’ right to data sovereignty, managing control over how information is stored, interpreted, validated, used or stored.

As the information being shared may be sensitive in nature our facilitation, reporting and data management practices will follow ethical data collection guidelines and we will ensure all participants are informed about, and consent to, their participation in engagement sessions. ICE team members are certified OCAP.
Gender-Based
Analysis Plus (GBA+)
GBA+ is a framework to assess systemic inequalities and how diverse groups within a community (such as women, gender diverse people, elders, etc.) may experience impacts of a project, policy, program or initiative different than members of other groups.

The “plus” acknowledges the different identity factors of the population groups, such as race, ethnicity, religion, geography, mental or physical disability and how those identity factors may influence the way one might experience impacts of those projects. GBA+ helps us better understand the positive and negative effects on various groups within a population.

ICE will ensure engagement activities and information will be collected with a diverse group of community members including elders, active land users, women, men, and youth. We will work with IO to create an ethical and safe space where all voices are heard and respected.
